Sderot will not fall
The town of Sderot, on the border fence with the Ghaza strip, has been under rocket barrage for the past six years in the center of the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians, who consider it a soft spot that can fracture the stature of us all. Their goal is clear: turning Sderot into a ghost town.
In order to prevent this from happening it is vital that we support the people of Sderot, empathize with them and really help them, not just with words. For this purposes we, friends and graduates of the National Security College, class of 85', have decided to stop debating the problem and take action instead.
In our first visit to Sderot we met an impressive group of people, who helped to shed some light on the severity of the situation. We saw the trail of devastation the rockets left on homes, businesses and most of all on the people themselves. We met students and teachers that are trying to maintain the daily routine with the rocket alert that allows them less than a minute to run for shelter. We've heard of others who couldn't cope with the pressure and left town, and on the other hand we've met those who are building new homes and do not even consider making another place their home.
From discussions we've had with people in Sderot, we learned that the field of non-formal education – music, cinema, theater – that's not budgeted regularly by the government or the municipal authority, is the one we'd like to support. There are some examples of things we can do with moderate costs:
* Purchasing a yearly subscription to the local Cinemateque for children at risk from broken homes.
* Equipping some dual- purpose shelters with audio equipment to serve as rehearsal space for young musicians.
* Financing scholarships for young, talented music students.
* Financing scholarships for outstanding high school students to join the annual "March of living" in Poland's Concentration camps.
In the first phase we have opened our hearts and personal pockets and bought cinema subscriptions for young kids. A couple of friends donated pianos, a guitar and some other instruments. Facing this tremendous challenge it is clear that we cannot do it by ourselves and so we turn to you, our friends here and abroad. If you consider this a worthy task you can donate any sum of money to help expand our activity in Sderot. Feel free to forward this message to others in order to help us achieve our goal- Sderot will not fall !

שדרות נמצאת כבר 6 שנים במוקד ההתמודדות בינינו ובין הפלסטינאים ברצועת עזה ,המזהים בה "בטן רכה",שפגיעה בה תסדוק את יכולת העמידה של כולנו, ומטרתם המוצהרת היא לגרום לתושבים לנטוש את העיר.
על מנת לסכל את הדבר ,חשוב ביותר לתמוך בתושבי העיר , להזדהות איתם , ולעזור להם במעשים ולא רק במילים נמלצות , כדי שיוכלו להמשיך ולחיות בשדרות. לשם כך התארגנו , קבוצת חברים ,שהמכנה המשותף שלהם הוא היותם בוגרי מחזור י"ב (1985) של המכללה לבטחון לאומי והחלטנו להפסיק לקטר ולדבר על המצב ובמקום זאת להתחיל לעשות כדי לשנותו.
בביקורנו הראשון במקום נפגשנו עם אנשים מרשימים , מהם למדנו על הקורה בישוב , ראינו את הפגיעות של הרקטות בבתים ובעסקים , שוחחנו עם תלמידים ומורים בבתי ספר ש "שחר אדום" הוא מנת חלקם היומית , שמענו על כאלה שלא עמדו בלחץ ועזבו את העיר ומנגד ראינו כאלה שבונים בתים חדשים במקום ולא מוכנים לשמוע על האפשרות לחיות במקום אחר.
בינינו לבין עצמנו החלטנו, כי אנו רוצים להתמקד בחינוך והעשרה ואמנם , בשיחות שקיימנו עם מספר גורמים בעיר למדנו , כי התחום שבו ניתן לתרום תרומה משמעותית הוא החינוך הלא פורמאלי – מוסיקה , קולנוע , תיאטרון , שאינם נתמכים , או מתוקצבים ע"י גורמים רשמיים , מקומיים או ממשלתיים , בניגוד לחינוך הפורמאלי, שם קיימת תמיכה. בעלות לא יקרה , יחסית , ניתן לעשות רבות , עם ערך מוסף גבוה. דוגמאות:
• רכישת מנוי שנתי לסינמטק המקומי לילדים בסיכון שמשפחותיהם אינן יכולות לממן זאת .
• מלגות ללימוד מוסיקה לילדים מוכשרים.
• תרומה של כלי נגינה וציוד קולי למקלטים בהם מתאמנים הילדים.
• ציוד מועדוניות/צהרונים לילדים בסיכון במחשבים שנתרמו ע"י פרטים וחברות.
בשלב הראשון צללנו אל תוך כיסינו הפרטיים ואספנו כמה אלפי שקלים בהם רכשנו מנויים שנתיים ל"סינמטף" לילדים. שני חברים תרמו פסנתרים , גיטרה ויכול להיות שנמצא עוד כלים , אך לאור הצרכים המרובים ברור לנו , כי לבד לא נוכל להרים את המשימה ואנו צריכים עזרה. וכשצריכים עזרה אל מי פונים אם לא אל חברים ? כל מי שהמטרה נראית לו חשובה והוא יכול/ה, רוצה ומוכן/ה , מוזמן להשתתף ולתרום סכום כלשהו שיעזור לנו להרחיב את פעילותנו בשדרות. כמו כן אפשר ורצוי להעביר הפנייה אל חברים נוספים , כולל כאלה שבחו"ל , על מנת להרחיב את מעגל המשתתפים.
